Initial Consultation

After a brief chat on the phone, I invite the prospective student over for an initial consultation where the student comes to my home , where I teach, and we have an informal meeting , where we can chat about what their goals and objectives are and a bit of musical background ( if any).  Then,   in some detail  I explain about the methods that I use to teach and how I run the sessions from an admin point of view, including the layout and cost of lessons and the aggreement I have with my students. ( This isn’t actually as formal as it all sounds!)

I should clearly state, that it really doesnt matter who your are or what walk of life you come from , or your musical education, your voice is unique, and is special. It would be wrong to make the assumption that because you may or may not read music or have played the piano for 10 years, that will make you a better singer or not.

Or if you were told  to mime in the junior school choir,  it doesnt follow that you don’t have the potential for a great voice! ( ironically , the music teacher at school who’s opinion meant such a lot then, now retrospectively, is just one opinion, and sometimes , dare i say it, his/her evaluative skills may or may not be accurate!)

Then I will have a listen to the student singing either a choice of song or a few basic vocal exercises. Nothing needs to be prepared for the consultation, it is not a ‘performance’ but merely a way for me to gauge where in your vocal development you are up to ( and if you are at the very start, that is absolutely fine!)

I will then chat to you about what my findings are and discuss what methods I would use in order to help you progress.
